PEO Industry Represented at Florida Jobs Summit By Robert Skrob, FAPEO Executive Director
Organized by Sen. Mike Haridopolos, R-Melbourne, the incoming president of the Florida Senate, and Rep. Dean Cannon, R-Winter Park, his counterpart in the House, the mission of the summit was to come up with ways to start reversing job losses in Florida and improve the state's 11.5-percent unemployment.
The consensus of the comments of the speakers was, the state needs to do a much better job of reducing the cost of doing business, minimizing time-consuming regulatory red tape and creating some stability so ventures looking to invest in Florida know what to expect from one year to the next.
Abram Finkelstein of StaffLink Outsourcing spoke on behalf of the PEO industry. He provided detailed input on the exaggerated increase in unemployment compensation employer contributions. His presentation provided a critical link between the PEO industry and the goal of the Summit which is job growth.
In a brief, one-on-one conversation with Sen. Haridopolos with Mr. Finkelstein, the Senator expressed his commitment to passing legislation that provides employers relief from unemployment compensation contributions by March 1st.
